Public Statement on the Fire
Earlier this week, Nikko experienced a serious fire that impacted homes, critical services, and several community landmarks. We know this has been unsettling, and our hearts are with everyone affected.
We want residents to know this clearly: Nikko is responding, adapting, and moving forward. In response to the incident, the City has:
Upgraded our fire station capacity, including additional trucks and a new firefighting helicopter
Expanded disaster aid offices to speed up coordination and recovery
Opened a disaster shelter with a capacity of 1,500 residents, ensuring immediate support for those displaced
These upgrades strengthen our emergency response and reflect our commitment to preparedness, safety, and resilience. While recovery will take time, the City is already taking concrete steps to protect residents and rebuild with care.
Thank you for your patience, your support of one another, and your continued belief in Nikko. We’ll keep you informed as recovery progresses—and yes, we’re planting more trees.
